What happens when you have the best dysphagia thickener in the world and you are stuck at home for a month or more? You figure out that you might have the best thickener in the world – not just the best dysphagia thickener!
The shower doors needed cleaning. And there was soap scum. So, I asked my wife what to use and she said “vinegar works the best, but it runs down the door too quickly.”
BINGO! I can fix that!
Granted, I already knew from earlier in my career that xanthan gum - the thickening agent in SimplyThick® EasyMix™ - is used to thicken acidic cleaners to increase the cling on vertical surfaces. But I still had to make it work.
After a quick internet search, I had a base formula and created my own new and improved shower door cleaner:
Combine in a bowl:
4 oz water
4 oz white vinegar
1 Tablespoon liquid dish soap
12 g of SimplyThick® EasyMix™ - depending on what you have on hand, this is 2 mildly thick packets, 1 moderately thick packet or 2 pump strokes.
First, I mixed with a whisk. You can mix fairly quickly, but be careful to not mix too fast so you don’t stabilize a foamy mess! Next, I poured the mixture into a spray bottle with a kitchen funnel and went to work. Thickened solutions don’t form a spray mist as nicely as thin liquids with a hand sprayer. But I did adjust the nozzle to make the spray as misty as possible. I let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then, I wiped and rinsed the doors off. The doors looked great with very little scrubbing!
Try it out yourself and let me know if you like it!
